Frequently Asked Questions
Is transportation available?
Yes! On the registration form, you may request free bus transportation for your student.
Will food be provided?
Yes! Students breakfast is provided during camp; sack lunches will be available to take home. Allergies: note this on your student's registration form; we will do our very best to accommodate their needs.
Who will be working at the camp?
A team of enthusiastic youth supported by qualified staff from The Canby Center will leader our camps. Background checks are required for all staff and volunteers.
Should my student bring any supplies to camp?
We recommend comfortable clothes, shoes, and a hat or sunscreen in anticipation of outdoor activities. On Friday we will have water activities; students will receive instructions ahead of time about what to bring for that day.
I am a parent or guardian of a student at camp. Can I help out?
All of our volunteers must submit an application and be available for team meetings before and after camp. We ask that parents and guardians who are not official volunteers please drop off their students for the morning. If you are interested in other ways of volunteering at The Canby Center, check out our volunteer page.
I registered for bus transportation. When will the bus pick up my student?
You will be contacted after your camp's registration deadline with further information about bus pick-up times.
Where can I get more information?
Contact our camp coordinators, listed below. All registered students will receive an email one week before camp with all the additional information they will need.
Are you enthusiastic, caring, and able to serve at one or more weeks of camp? Join us in serving and loving the elementary school kids of Canby!
Responsibilities include helping with arts and crafts, leading and playing games, facilitating small group discussions, and more!
Preferably, volunteers will be available from 8:30am - 12:30pm Monday - Friday on their selected camp weeks. If you want to volunteer but can't commit to the full week, feel free to fill out the application form and call Shelby Bennett (Camp Co-coordinator) at 971-400-1260 to discuss options!
Volunteers must also fill out a background check at a mandatory training on either July 6th at 6:00pm or July 7th at 9:00am.
Can I volunteer for multiple weeks?
I’m only available on certain days of the week. Can I volunteer?
While we prefer full-week volunteers, we are willing to work with you if your availability is different! We primarily need volunteers who are available for the entirety of the 8:30am - 12:30pm Monday - Friday on their selected camp weeks. If you want to volunteer but can't commit to the full week, feel free to fill out the application form and call Shelby Bennett (Camp Co-coordinator) at 971-400-1260 to discuss options!
How old do I have to be?
Our volunteers must be 18 or older. However, we will accept applications from 17-year-olds who are entering their senior year of high school.
I filled out the application; am I guaranteed a volunteer position and when will I hear back?
Filling out the application does not guarantee that a volunteer position is available. We will contact you between July 1-7 to confirm your acceptance.
