Together: Canby Center News March 2024

Updated: Dec 11, 2024

At The Center

At The Canby Center we believe every person has human dignity. Whether you call it self-confidence, courage, or dignity, we all know it when we see it. We also know when the candle of dignity is flickering out.

There was a time in the world when dignity was purchased by your birthright. Born a royal? You had dignity. Not born into the right class of people? So sorry; no dignity for you.

We can trace the origin of human dignity to the “Image of God” (imago dei, Latin translation) in the first pages of the Bible. “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27

The idea here is that people are a small portrait of God. We are intellectual, moral, and spiritual beings as God is. We are not God, but we bear God’s nature. As the divine is exceedingly valuable, so too people carry inherent worth. This is why we highly value every person who comes through the doors of The Canby Center.

God bless you!

Together We Serve

In Step With Staff

Brooke Spencer coordinates our Reading Mentors Program at every elementary school in the Canby School District. Brooke is ensuring that the 112 children currently in the program can read for fun so they can read to learn!

Brooke joined The Canby Center team as Elementary Programs Coordinator in August 2022. She has a God-given passion and gifting for working with kids. Brooke holds a bachelor's degree of Applied Science and an Applied Leadership Certificate from Boise State University. She is known for her playful and adventurous spirit (and she loves to share that with others!).

The best way you can help Brooke is to become a Reading Mentor!

Building For Tomorrow

As we prepare to expand The Canby Center, we are delighted to be partnering with Nick Wellman and his team at Triplett Wellman Construction. Nick’s team has a depth of experience with commercial building projects in Canby and beyond. Founded in 1982, Triplett Wellman Contractors has been satisfying customers’ construction needs through exemplary service for over 40 years. Triplett-Wellman is honored to be included in the list of top 50 contracting companies in Oregon and Washington.

Clackamas County is busy at work with the review of our construction plans. We anticipate beginning construction this spring. It is so exciting! Multiple times a day we are reminded of the importance of this special project for Canby.
