Self-Worth is more than skin deep

Twice each year, parents with limited resources can find it difficult to look their children in the eye – at Christmas, and at Back-To-School. True self-worth does not come from material things, but reflects an appreciation for the role one plays and the contribution one makes. Development of a healthy sense of self- worth is influenced as much by the environment (peer attitude) as by the initial confidence of the individual. At Back-To-School time, the children in families with limited resources face a significant initial disadvantage, but one that can easily be overcome, if only we recognize the need and respond appropriately.

O B J E C T I V E

The Canby Center will manage and implement a program to provide the Canby church community an opportunity to use the resources God has blessed them with to help others with Back-To-School resources (Backpacks, supplies, clothes, shoes, haircuts).

By choosing to provide these resources through the parents, we reinforce their role as providers in the eyes of their children, with a positive impact on confidence and dignity, and strengthening the family unit.  Promote programs currently available through our local churches for single parents and families.
