Food

We offer healthy provisions to families and individuals in the Canby School District who are in need of food in order to combat hunger, empower parents, and stabilize their families while providing them a sense of dignity and the opportunity to build community relationships.

Emergency Food Boxes

The family or individual is furnished with food depending on ethnicity, family size and living circumstances.  The food supplied is enough to last them until the next food bank.  Included in the box is information about the local Canby Food Banks.

Harvest Share

The Harvest Share is made possible due to a partnership with local farm stalls, fruit and vegetable farms, community members, Gleaners, Safeway, Thriftway and Wilcox eggs.  The Canby School District community can access this free resource of fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs and bread, every Tuesday morning. We offer healthy provisions to families and individuals in the Canby School District

Backpack Buddies

Many families in Canby, across Oregon, and throughout the nation are experiencing tough times right now.  Currently over nearly 46% of students, 853 children, in elementary school in the Canby School District receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch five days a week during the school year.  This does not represent all the students who do not receive adequate food at home.  Teachers have noticed behaviors in students on Monday mornings that cause them to question how much the children had to eat during the weekend.  In partnership with the Canby School District and local churches, students in greatest need of food receive food packs of ready to prepare snacks and meals for the weekend, while maintaining their confidentiality.

Cops Care

Lunch sacks provided for our Canby Police officers in a compact container in the trunk of their patrol cars.  Food is on hand when our officers encounter homeless individuals or families in immediate need of food.

Mobile Kitchen

We know that many families and individuals in Canby are experiencing hunger during these difficult economic times.  Even with access to local food banks, the homeless population faces the additional challenge of preparing and cooking the food that is available to them.  Inadequate and unsafe housing (such as garages, trailers etc.) means that even though a family is not living on the street, hot meals are not an option for them.  In partnership with St Vincent De Paul, the Mobile Kitchen offers a hot lunch served restaurant style by volunteers of The Canby Center every Thursday afternoon at The Canby Center as well as at the Wilsonville rest area on Thursday evenings.

Food Stamps

Selected as one of only two sites in a pilot project, our case manager can assist and submit food stamp application at the Center, with clients being able to collect their Oregon Trail cards in Canby, without having to travel to Oregon City for processing.  The DHS interview will be conducted via the phone, after the application is submitted.
